This is a collection of artwork with stone inlay that can fall into other categories as well.  Among the stones and minerals I use are malachite, mica, biotite, aragonite, lepidotite, limonite, spar gypsum, calcite, sodalite, marble, and flourite.

The ancient tree stump, with its stark beauty, evokes age and a notion of a natural cycle. Here, the stump is a stone inlay in a background of cherry burl with a calcite and gilded frame. Approx. 9 1/2" dia. [SOLD]

This second in the series, this ancient stump still has a few leaves left, blowing off in the wind. Executed in stone and copper inlay, this piece is also in Cherry burl, except it is dyed to evoke a sunset and is in the shape of a cabochon. The blank is the "sister" to 2011-738. Approx 9" dia. #2011-737 Birches #2 on Walnut $290
This beautifully figured walnut plate provides a wonderfully dark background for the inlaid stone of the birches. The trunks are mostly white streaked marble, with malachite (and sulfur) leaves. The frame is green calcite over a gilded base. Approx 11 1/2 dia. $290

buckeye burl vase $185
#2010-735 buckeye vase with lapis inlay. This piece was a real challenge, since buckeye is such an unfriendly wood. But as unfriendly or not, it is a breathtaking wood. The lapis inlay and finial top it off nicely. Approx. 7" tall x 3 1/2 " diameter. $185

"Seals at Play" Big-Leaf Maple Burl Bowl
#2008-723 Big-Leaf Maple Burl bowl with stone inlay and ebonized walnut base. The grain patterns reminded me of the sea, with shimmering depths and outcroppings of hard burl figures. The seals just to go perfectly. Features a calcite rim over bronze mica. approx 5" dia x 3" tall $225
